đź“‘Â Nutrient Deficiency in Intermediate Wheatgrass
🧚🏻‍♂️ Kratky Hydroponic
- youtube video | link
- what is kratky hydroponic? | reference
- a form of hydroponics adaptable for small home gardens or large-scale production
- plants sit atop a “raft”—a netted pot containing a growing medium—that is fixed to the top of a small container or tank and filled with nutrient solution. As the plant grows, the nutrient solution level decreases to allow for air space
🔦 Light
LED light & plant growth
- reference link & an experiment with LED lights link
- Plants need blue & red lights to thrive
- LED lights are cost-effective, energy efficient, easy to install, more durable, last longer
- Colors:
- The most crucial colors for plants are white, red, and blue light.
- White light is good for general plant growth
- Red light is necessary for seed germination, flowering, and fruit production
- Blue light is essential for strong leaves and stems.
- Violet light can spike growth and may improve the flavor and aroma of some plants
- Yellow light and green light contribute to photosynthesis (although they don’t promote as much growth as red and blue light)
🧊 growing plants in a cube
- Today I walked pass Prof. Andy’s farming workshop. They were growing seeds in the Rock wool cubes. He told me that the rock wool cubes are natural material & pH neutral. They won’t add nutrients in the first place, but as the seeds starting to sprout, they will add the nutrients little by little.
🥶 Mold, bugs and Wheatgrass
Very distressing to see bugs and mold growing again and again on the plants, so I did some research. (back to diary)
- “Young sprouts produce fuzzy root hairs which have an almost similar appearance to mold. ” | link
- I was like - OOPS!! after reading this. But since the wheatgrass is giving out unpleasant smell, that may not be the root hair
- “It looks like a mould called Rhizopus. The black dots are balls of spores called sporangia that are formed at the end of stalks called sporangiophores.” | link
- according to this respondent, it might be that the seeds are contaminated already. The respondent suggests processing the seeds with bleach.
